Angkor, a reunion with friends

A long weekend in Cambodia with friends

6 nights / 7 days

This is an adventurous holiday uniquely designed for a group of friends who are keen to explore the beauty and history of The Temples of Angkor in a different way. During the course of 7 days, we will take you and your friends on a fascinating biking and camping journey while staying at the most stylish hotels in Siem Reap and offering you rare insights of Cambodian’s life and its people.

Chapter 1
Exploring Angkor by bike Day 1,2,3 : The temples of Angkor

Upon arrival in Siem Reap we will transfer you to your hotel. After some freshing up, a tuk tuk driver is waiting for you to take you on a ride through the small provincial capital of Siem Reap. You can visit the old market, stroll around the streets and enjoy lunch at one of the many charming grand cafes in the center of town.

After lunch we head back to the hotel for a lazy afternoon at the pool and an early dinner.

Renovated from an old French Governor’s mansion, art deco embraces chic hotel, creating an atmosphere of refined luxury and casual elegance. Defined by its lush green gardens and the salt-water swimming pool, the hotel embodies Cambodia's tranquil pace of life: a casual swim, drinks in the garden, dinner on the terrace.

Day 2

After an early breakfast, a unique and enchanting experience awaits as you set off on your bike from Siem Reap to explore the fabled temples of Angkor, the ancient capital of the Khmer empire. Over 100 temples are spread over a vast area and the site easily lives up to its status as one of the seven wonders of the forgotten world.

Pedal along tree lined streets to the former capital Angkor Thom, where the mysterious faces of Bayon stare majestically in to the distance. Continue on to Ta Prohm, where the jungle like atmosphere was used as a movie set for the ‘Tomb Raider' film. We then cycle back to Café Angkor for lunch which is situated opposite Angkor Wat.
After lunch we have time to relax, read or perhaps take a nap under the shady trees near Angkor Wat. In the afternoon, we explore Angkor Wat, an intriguing massive complex filled with bas reliefs and enormous causeways and towers. We enjoy sunset before cycling back to Siem Reap.

The evening is at leisure.

Day 3

This morning, you will cycle through the countryside to one of the best preserved temples in Cambodia, Banteay Srei. This petite red sandstone temple offers stunning bass reliefs and other stone carvings. Your guide is there to give you all the information about the temples history. A pick nick lunch is organised nearby and there is time to relax, read and wander around.

After lunch, as we cycle back toward town, we make a stop to visit the relatively unexplored Banteay Samre, a miniature Angkor Wat. We continue through the Angkor Complex on our return, enjoying the stunning views of some of the most impressive temples along the way.

Evening at leisure.

Chapter two: Camping at Beng Mealea and Preah Vihear
Day 4: Siem Reap, Beng Mealea, Koh Ker

Today we will leave our bikes behind. Our driver and guide will take us northeast from Siem Reap to the massive jungle temple of Beng Mealea, the size and scale of Angkor Wat but utterly swallowed by the jungle. You can clamber about this titanic of temples that feels just like it would have when discovered by the first explorers.
We will set up camp for you, while you make a visit to the pyramid temple of Prasat Thom and enjoy the sunset over the surrounding jungle. Tonight we will camp right outside the walls of the temple. After dinner our guide can take us to explore the temple by torchlight. We overnight outside Prasat Thom.

Day 5 Koh Ker, Tbeng Meanchey, Preah Vihear

After breakfast, you will continue to explore the many temples at this incredible site, including the beautiful Prasat Krahom, covered by jungle. We will continue to head east through Kulen district to the provincial capital of Preah Vihear, Tbeng Meanchey. Here we make a stop for lunch and take some time to relax.

After lunch we take a road north towards the Thai border before reaching the Dangrek Mountains, the natural border between the two neighbouring countries. You are then driven slowly and carefully up the steep road to reach the summit. Set on the cliffs of the Dangrek range, this is undoubtedly the most dramatic location of any of the ancient Khmer temples with stunning views over the Cambodian plains below.

After sunset we ride back down the mountain for a dinner at the camp at Preah Vihear.

Day 6
Preah Vihear, Anglong Veng, Siem Reap

After breakfast, we drive to Anlong Veng, one of the last Khmer Rouge bases to fall to government forces. We make a stop for lunch and visit the house of Ta Mok, former military commander of the Khmer Rouge.

After lunch we continue our journey south to Siem Reap where we arrive at the hotel in the afternoon. Time for a massage, swim and dinner at the Roof Garden!

Chapter Three: Back in Siem Reap

This tranquil hotel was originally a guesthouse named Villa Apsara. In 1962, King Sihanouk commissioned French architect, Laurent Mondet, to build a guesthouse enabling visiting dignitaries to enjoy a cool and contemporary stay while allowing them to explore the outstanding nearby ancient ruins and temples within its jungle and rice paddy terrain. Beautifully restored, the hotel offers a multitude of relaxing opportunities within its private garden enclave: sultry curved slate swimming pool surrounded by bamboo and taupe cushioned loungers with a shaded pergola for alfresco delights; the Dining Room, previously the screening room of King Sihanouk, is both dramatic and outstanding with a cavernous seven-metre high ceiling and a well stocked walk-in wine cellar. The 24 suites are decorated in a classic Indochinese palette of cool grey, pristine white, dark timber and ivory with private courtyards and soothing water features with 12 offering private swimming pools. The Roof Garden, surrounded and shaded by trees, with mushroom hued cushions on low seating, is the ideal venue for relaxing by candlelight with pre-prandial drinks or, invigorating yoga sessions with the rising sun.

Day 7

After breakfast at the hotel, you can spend the rest of the morning to do some last minute shopping in town or make a visit to the workshops of Artisan D’Angkor before we drive you to the airport for your onward travels.
